Rolfi’s infectious smile and positive attitude are not what someone would typically associate with a recovering alcoholic and cocaine addict.

Rolfi’s addiction had taken over his life, and after the loss of his cousin to a drug overdose, he knew it was time to change. “And that’s when Odyssey House helped me,” Rolfi says as his eyes light up.

rolfiOnce he entered our ElderCare program, Rolfi, 56, realized how much bigger his problems were and appreciated the additional support he received. He has built strong connections to his peers. “Every time I hear someone’s story, I hear a different version of my own.”

Rolfi credits the structure in place at Odyssey House for helping him stay sober and active in the community. “When I started treatment, I told myself: ‘I’m going to do whatever it takes to get better – so just follows the rules.’”

With his recovery underway, he has taken up a new challenge: computers. Before the program, Rolfi did not have a lot of experience using a computer, but now he is beginning vocational training and enjoys working outside of his comfort zone, promising himself that he won’t give up.
