A service of the National Cancer Institute, smokefree.gov provides free, accurate, evidence-based information and professional assistance to help support the immediate and long-term needs of people trying to quit smoking.
The Quitline offers a telephone-based counseling service (1-866-NY-QUITS) to quit tobacco and also provides resources and information on its website.
The American Lung Association offers a variety of smoking control and prevention programs targeted to specific groups-some aimed at adults, others intended for school use, and still others designed to build bridges between the home and school and involve community leaders along with parents and educators.
Organized by the American Cancer Society, the Great American Smokeout is held annually on the third Thursday in November to encourage Americans to quit smoking. The website offers a variety of resources and information about the event and smoking cessation.
